today matters so matter today

I realized recently that we spend a lot of time at my house searching for remote controls. My 3 year old and my 10 month old are fascinated with the remote. They are of the male species so that can be expected. So they take them all over the house "turning things off and on" and hiding them, accidentally I am sure. Unless it is true that children are much more intelligent than we suppose and we do actully just make them dumber as they develop by making high pitch silly noises and funny faces at them. A little girl fell out of bed one night and began to cry. Her mother rushed into her bedroom, picked her up, put her back in bed, and asked her "Honey, why did you fall out of bed?" And she said "I think I stayed too close to the place where I got in." I was challenged by this thought recently. Imagine when the "wise men" showed up at the birthplace of Jesus with their gifts, them just giving their gifts to each other. They open them with excitment and watch the others open theirs. Some are disappointed that they didn't get more but fake a smile nonetheless. And all the while Jesus is there going "Hey guys. Over here. I thought this was about me. You don't understand that if you will just give Me those gifts, I will give you gifts that you could never imagine in return. I confess, sometimes I am a little cynical. I see some stuff and have to laugh and at times am really critical. Stuff like church billboards, you know like "CH CH. What's missing? I am reading a book called Social Intelligence - the new science of human relationships. It is really a pretty dry read honestly because it is a lot of information of neuroscientific research. Here was one pretty cool thing though that was done in a study - TRY THIS. FOR REAL. Get a pen or pencil. DO IT!
